Kloman Art’s focus is classical, museum-quality works of art from
sub-Saharan Africa and the South Pacific. A recognized authority in the field, Susan Kloman founded the business after nearly 25 years as Christie’s International Director of African and Oceanic Art department in New York and Paris and head of Sotheby’s African and Oceanic Art department in New York. Kloman has placed significant works of art in institutional and private collections around the world.

Kloman’s most recent book – EX LUNAFrom the Moon (2023)- focuses on three unique masterpieces of African art inspired by the moon. In addition to the scores of essays and catalogues she has written, edited and produced over the last three decades, Susan Kloman authored the book on a major private collection, Beauty Unusual: Masterworks from the Ceil Pulitzer Collection of African Art.

Other recent contributions include – Madame’s Collection, edited by Hélène Joubert and published in conjunction with the major exhibition on the collector, Helena Rubinstein, at the Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac, Paris.

A leading expert in the field, Kloman transformed the public market for the field of Africa, Oceania and the Americas, through top quality collection sales and singular masterworks, she designed unprecedented formats showcasing major works of art. Her most innovative and powerful platform for the field was the groundbreaking Masterworks™ series of tightly edited sales featuring fewer than 12 lots of top quality and unique works of art starting in the spring of 2016 first in New York and then Paris. Amongst her achievements is the first auction in almost 40 years dedicated solely to Oceanic Art and the first auction specialist to exhibit African art in China. She was also the first expert to lecture on the subject of African & Oceanic Art and the influence on Modern Art, and artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani and Brancusi, in China.
